NO Boundaries,” a bilingual art book by painter and businessman David Kaufman Stone, was presented by La Riot Collective in Carabanchel, Madrid. “Printed in Madrid and in the Philippines, the book documents my Spanish period. It includes works from my exhibit at Kate Contemporary, Madrid, from December 2023 to June 2024, alongside the new body of work developed in Carabanchel,” Kaufman said. The period culminated in a 30- day art installation in Madrid — a full-scale recreation of Kaufman’s art studio staged as an open, living archive of process, place and production. The installation was made accessible to the public after the works were produced. The project was first presented by La Riot Collective on June 22 and officially launched at Altro Mondo in Carabanchel, Madrid, on Sept. 5. The English-Spanish book is now carried by FEU Publications Philippines and was launched at the ongoing Manila International Book Fair at SMX Convention Center. “My practice during this Spanish period operates within the language of emotional and expressive abstraction. These works are nonlinear, intuitive renditions of Spanish inspiration — an experimental amalgamation of found Spanish materials, raw matter and acrylic on canvas,” wrote Kaufman. “The work investigates materiality, memory and gesture. Through layering, erasure and accumulation, each canvas becomes a palimpsest — a charged field where the tactile residue of Carabanchel converges with gestural mark-making. “It is a signature of my original and cutting-edge approach that pushes the envelope of expressionist abstraction — where the studio is not merely where art is made, but is itself an act of creation, a spatial narrative of process becoming product.
